Program Overview

Michael is new to community health work and eager to get certified to boost his career prospects.

CHW CORE can offer him:
  • 75-Hour Online Training: Michael can take CHW CORE's free 75-hour online course to gain essential skills for public health positions. This training includes health literacy, NARCAN administration, workplace safety, and cultural competency.
  • Work Experience and Stipend: After earning his training certificate, Michael can seek out public health service providers in Pennsylvania as host sites to gain work experience. The state requires 2000 hours of CHW experience for certification. To support this, CHW CORE offers a stipend of up to $6000 to cover living expenses during the first 300 hours at his host site.
  • 12-Month Apprenticeship: Instead of taking the training and then going on to a host site, Michael can enroll in a 12-month apprenticeship, working at an employer site while completing CHW CORE's online training as part of his on-the-job learning.
  • Certification Assistance: Once Michael completes both the 75-hour training and 2000 hours of work experience, he can apply for certification in Pennsylvania. CHW CORE will assist with the application process and cover the initial application fee.
